Happy September Beloveds!

Blue skies, fluffy white clouds and sunny comfortable weather are lighting up my days recently! I hope you've gotten outside in it more than I have. I get stuck behind my laptop screen too much! What a surprising delight to have such mild weather through the end of August! I often start these newsletters talking about the weather since it's something we all experience everyday. It brings me into the present moment to look out and see/feel the outside reality. I get stuck in my head most of the time and weather calls me to be present with now. So how is your 'now' going, Beloveds? My day is definitely improved. See below.

I've had grief rolling in as a surprise this past week or so, partially triggered by an expensive car repair. It's getting lighter but is still lingering in my heart. I spent a day or two in tears wishing I had someone to 'share the load.' I missed having a constant companion or husband to share my moments, even though when I had them I still often felt alone or discontent.

This need for the other has not been a need of mine for sometime, so it was a surprise when it took me down for several days. My dear friend Deborah is moving out of town in October and I think this was what also triggered my grief. Our regular Sunday pizza and cribbage dates will be sorely missed! Change is inevitable and though I'm sure we will stay connected, I'll miss the weekly cribbage games and many wonderful shared hours of her good company.

I'm very aware that I'm not alone in my solitariness. There are many of us who live alone and have had no partner or have lost our partner as we face aging alone. I'm lucky to have so many loving friends to reach out to when I need support. On the first day, my worst day, I reached out to 'my Boo'. Even though he was crazy busy and has little to no time to visit these days, 2 or 3 hours after sending him a text, I was surprised by a knock on my door. I opened the door and burst into tears as I fell into his arms. I so needed to cry in someone's strong arms that day! Thank you Boo!

Part of me felt ashamed of my 'weakness'. I'm suppose to be an advanced awakened soul now, a teacher. What's the matter with me? Oh, yeah...I'm human...really really human! Any one who has read my memoir knows how truly human I am. I had been living in a state of mostly 'no need' for quite a while and it disappeared. Or that's the story I'm telling myself. Believe me, if I get uncomfortable physically I become a grouchy bitch immediately. Ask anyone who knows me.

So, confessions of the less than fully enlightened soul. I am humbled by my needs once again. Years ago Matt Kahn told me my theme for this life is humility. Apparently he was right. I'm taking one step at a time, loving myself as I am and opening to this moment as it is. I let the grief out and was comforted and soothed by my Boo and other friends who held the space for me as I shared, cried and slowly came back together. Thank you so much Beloveds!

Happy August Beloveds!

Seems July went by fast for me with many delightful visitors and events so I never sent out a newsletter. Oops! (Grin) Happily, I'm getting this newsletter out early this month! Here's hoping you all are having a good summer so far. The last day or so have been welcome with the cooler temperatures. Hope that lasts for a while!

My talk at the final KarmaFest went well. Thank you dear friends to all of you who attended and a special thank you to Loren Duffey for videoing my talk! He has sent me a first draft edit of it which I may share with you later. (Grin) I was delighted to have a group of about 12 people attend including a couple that brought a barky dog along. Luckily the dog only barked a few times or I would have asked them to leave. A great big thank you to Patti Hawse for making KarmaFest such an amazing event over the last 20 years!

One of the things I shared at KarmaFest and in my recent podcast was about accepting and enjoying our ego. Some teach to "kill the ego" to reach the Divine. It's important in the spiritual search to see beyond the ego, yes, but I believe there is such a thing as a healthy and unhealthy ego. I embrace the healthy ego. It helps us remember to put our pants on before we leave the house and to not walk in front of a bus.

I enjoyed finding this quote from Ram Dass today on Facebook:
“One doesn’t have to beat down one’s ego for God. That isn’t the way it works. The ego isn’t in the way, it’s how we are holding the ego. It is much better to just do the spiritual practices and open to God and love God and trust your intuitive heart. As the transformation changes, the ego then becomes this beautiful instrument that’s available to you to deal with the world. It’s not in the way anymore...”

As I've said before, we come here to play hide and go seek. We forget we are God and then go in search of ourselves. Sometimes the trick is to recognize 'you are what you are seeking'. Even the silence we seek is always present. (See below.) I hope you are enjoying your seeking and your beautiful ego!

Other Joys

If you haven't yet listened to my podcast you can listen by clicking [here].(https://open.spotify.com/episode/467wAA1LgfznRQt0wS3gYp)
I want to thank Chione and Chloe of Mystical Mermaid Lounge again for hosting me on my first ever podcast. I'm looking for other podcast to be a guest on and promote my book. If you know of any let me know.

I reached out to a well known teacher of budding authors, Mark Matousek, this past month about how to promote my book. I'm delighted that he responded quicky with excellent advice. The lion's share being: "Podcast, Podcasts, Podcasts". Glad I'm already headed in the right direction. I recommend Mark Matousek if you are interested in becoming an author. He's teaching at Omega this fall.

If you have read my book, I would deeply appreciate a review on Amazon. Apparently you can leave a review even if you bought the book directly from me, as long as you're an Amazon customer. Let me know if you post a review and send it along to me too at sherrytuegel@verizon.net.

For those of you still searching for my book, you can click here to find it. I'm also happy to mail you a signed copy for $25 plus shipping fees (around $5).

One more joy to share. My Doctor was delighted with the changes in my health! Swimming regularly and eating less than a stick of butter a day and a half pound of cheese is making a big difference! Okay...slight exaggeration about the amount of butter and cheese but it has been a big change! I've lost 16 pounds since last September. WooHoo!

Upcoming Classes and Events

I'm offering my monthly All Love Zoom on the third Thursday of the month, August 21st from 7pm to 9pm. The fee is $20 paid through Zelle (preferred) or PayPal. Contact me if you'd like to attend and I will send you the link.

Join Patti Hawse here at my home in Pikesville for another amazing Shamanic Journey on Saturday, August 23rd from 3pm to 5pm. The fee is $44. Click here to sign up. Her last journey rocked my world! So deep and peaceful for me. I heard her say "It's time to come back" and I wanted to yell out NOOOO! She then said we had been out for one and a half hours. I was shocked. All 7 of us also had our hand over our hearts through the whole journey. Seriously awesome! Thank you Patti! Please join us if you can on the 23rd!

I'm considering hosting a Reiki/Healing Share here at my home in Pikesville. Please contact me if you would be interested in attending. I'm also teaching Reiki again. You can get in touch with me by phone at 410-598-1010 between 11am and 7pm or email me at sherrytuegel@verizon.net. I hope to hear from you and see you soon at a class or event.

Happy June Beloveds!

I'm hoping you're finding things to enjoy in the warming weather! I've had some delightful experiences this month so far. On June 5th I went with my friend Deborah down to Annapolis to soak up an amazing sound bath by Crystal Ashram. They usually do one a month on the first Thursday of the month at the Quaker Meeting House on Dubois Road. The presenters are very heart centered and grounded. One participant had an huge awakening experience opened up by the sound and energy of the room. Hearing his story made my knees tingle. ;) I'd love to see you there sometime! I think the next one is July 3rd and Deborah and I plan to go back. Check them out at crystalashram.com.

On Saturday June 7th, as I mentioned last month, I had the delight of being interviewed on Mystical Mermaid Lounge Podcast. Chione Star and Chloe were both so bright, loving and funny! Chione had bought my book at the Winterfest Solstice event after attending my All Love talk and meditation there. She praised my memoir and was impressed how well written it was. Many self-published authors are not well edited, apparently. I praised my 2 editors, Dvora Konstant and Monica Sweidel for helping me. I really enjoyed Chione and Chloe's questions and comments! I can barely wait for the podcast to be finished and sent out. When it is I will send you the link! If you'd like to listen in on their other podcast check them out here.

No Kings by Bill Whitley

On the Political Front

My dear friend Bill Whitley sent me a pack of posters that boldly say "No Kings". If you would like one, just drop me an email and you can pick one up while they last. He has his own printing press and is a very gifted artist. I met him when I was about 15 years old. He was actually my first date. He got me out of the house so my parents could surprise me with a Sweet 16 party. I just thought you should know that. LOL! Once a month he and 2 other of my Winchester, VA friends, Marcy and June, get together and chat on Zoom. It feels good to still have a loving connection with these long time friends.

Here is a post from Facebook I felt it important to share. I hope you find it helpful!

Zen priest, Peter Coyote, on protest:
"I’m watching the Los Angeles reaction to ICE raids with trepidation and regret.
Three years ago I taught a class at Harvard on the “theater of protest”— designed to help people understand why so many protests turn out to be Republican campaign videos working directly against the interests of the original protest.
A protest is an invitation to a better world.
It’s a ceremony.
No one accepts a ceremonial invitation when they’re being screamed at.
More important you have to know who the real audience of the protest is.
The audience is NEVER the police, the politicians, the Board of supervisors, Congress, etc.
The audience is always the American people, who are trying to decide who they can trust; who will not embarrass them.
If you win them, you win power at the box office and power to make positive change.
Everything else is a waste.
There are a few ways to get there:
1. Let women organize the event. They’re more collaborative. They’re more inclusive, and they don’t generally bring the undertones of violence men do.
2. Appoint monitors, give them yellow, vests and whistles. At the first sign of violence, they blow the whistles and the real protester sit down.
Let the police take out their aggression on the anarchists and the provocateurs trying to discredit the movement.
3. Dress like you’re going to church. It’s hard to be painted as a hoodlum when you’re dressed in clean, presentable clothes.
They don’t have to be fancy they just signal the respect for the occasion that you want to transmit to the audience.

1.Make your protest silent. Demonstrate your discipline to the American people. Let signs do the talking.
2.Go home at night. In the dark, you can’t tell the cops from the killers. Come back at dawn fresh and rested. I have great fear that Trump’s staging with the National Guard and maybe the Marines is designed to clash with anarchists who are playing into his hands and offering him the opportunity to declare an insurrection. It’s such a waste and it’s only because we haven’t thought things through strategically. Nothing I thought of is particularly original. It was all learned by watching the early civil rights protests in the 50s and 60s. And it was the discipline and courage of African-Americans that drew such a clear line in the American sand that people were forced to take sides and that produced the civil rights act. The American people are watching and once again if we behave in ways that can be misinterpreted, we’ll see this explained to the public in Republican campaign videos benefiting the very people who started this. Wake up. Vent at home. In public practice discipline and self control. It takes much more courage." — Peter Coyote Zen teacher and author/narrator, with Ken Burns Note: Carry an American flag. As the administration creates a fake emergency to justify a state crackdown, it's important to honor the values and vision of democracy for which we're advocating. When the Enquirer came for pics back in 2017, I smiled a big toothy grin and held a big flag as it felt so empowering and good to stand with my adult daughter, pastors, Franciscans, nuns, kids, parents, grandparents and some women from our women's groups for the values we tried to pass on. After the protest, we sang and marched to a church where we heard poignant witness of immigrants trying to build a better life for their families against insurmountable odds. Many Marines, National Guardsmen and vets are over on Threads and Substack expressinging their disagreement over being used by this lawless administration. Peace, santi and shalom to all. ☮️ — Leslie Flood Hershberger

Stay safe, loving and peaceful as you stand up, Beloveds!

May June bring you great joy and deep love as you move through the challenges and changes around us. Breathe deep and give yourself the love you deserve. So many of us are sad and overwhelmed. If you can, let your breath take you into the space between the in and out breath. I've been struggling with some overwhelm and a sense of oppression on some days. If I let me self sit in quite or in nature and breathe I soon find the still loving place inside me. May you find yours as well, Beloveds! As a service I'm offering free 30 minute healing coaching sessions for the next year or more. Please reach out if you need some support!

You know I love to hear from you! Drop me an email and let me know what's happening in your precious life.

Happy May, Beloveds!

I hope you're enjoying the warming May weather and finding places of peace and contentment in your life amid the many ups and downs and sometimes shocking changes happening around us. I've been challenged and saddened by the things happening in the US and our world. I have been finding strength and solace by returning daily to the Buddhist practice of loving kindness. From Google: "In Buddhism, loving-kindness, or metta, is a cultivated mental state characterized by a deep, unselfish love and goodwill for all beings, including oneself. It's not just an emotion, but an active intention to wish others happiness and well-being." This practice lightens my heart and has helped me deeply through these troubled times. I pray that all of us find the support and love we need. Please do reach out to me if you need support. I'd be honored to lovingly listen and hold a space for you. I can also place you and your concerns or issues in my crystal prayer grid for healing and loving transformation.

I also would love to hear whatever happiness and joy you have to share. Thankfully, even in the midst of troubles and chaos we can open to moments of happiness and joy, and I have some joys to share! Last week I had the a delightful visit with my friend Matt from St. Louis on Monday and then Wednesday my friend of 60 years, June, visited for 3 days. These sweet visits were followed by Patti Hawse and Megan Plummer doing an amazing altering Shamanic Journey here this past Saturday. I also had loving company on Sunday and this Monday from Deborah and then Peg. Thank you all for the sweet company! All this activity is a rare exception to my usual quiet and solitary life. Happily I have gotten comfortable with the quiet in my life with only momentary bouts of resistance to it. LOL!

BB Header Spring 2022

Happy April Beloveds!

How are you doing, my friends? I've been everything as usual, which is different than 'one with everything'. My ego seldom lets me visit that truth - sadly. I am beyond bliss when I do have those moments! If you've read my book or know me well; you've gotten a taste of my ups and downs. For example, this February my doctor put me on a medication to lower my cholesterol which ended up increasing the pain in my body and made me feel tired and oppressed. The day after I decided it was the culprit and stopped taking it, I felt normal again, still crazy but normal crazy. I dislike taking medications so I'll be trying to change my diet by taking psyllium and eating better. We shall see if I can shift things that way. To my delight, some of my favorite junk food doesn't have cholesterol. Eating better? LOL!

Recently I've been adjusting to not having the creation of my book as the center of my life. I now need to find ways to promote it but promotion is one of my least favorite jobs. If you happen to know a good way to promote my spiritually based sex-positive, body-positive memoir, please let me know! Of course, once again, here and below I'll promote my memoir.
Here's a springtime 2008 snippet:

"Springtime Surprises

Spring finally began to burst forth with all its colors and blooms. In mid-April I was driving along a familiar suburban lane enjoying the white and pink blossoming trees. I looked over and saw a large patch of blazing ‘no-holding-back’ red tulips. The intensity of their beauty overwhelmed me. I burst into tears. I wanted to live like that, no holding back! Sadly, soon after, I wrote this in my journal:

I’ve looked outside from these ‘Sherry’ eyes in the last few days seeing the beautiful spring but felt fear, removal. It couldn’t touch me as it did when I wept at the sudden erotic intensity of the red tulips. Maybe the tulip doesn’t feel intense at all, or erotic. But that day I was openhearted enough to feel the amazement, the exquisite precious and brief shining moment of their lives.

Fear is a bear. Where did my ecstasy go?!?

My usual ups and downs took a back seat by the end of April as I headed off again on another adventure."

I like to think that my emotional rollercoaster is more subdued these days. As always, I'm a work in process.

Promoting My Book

Because of the explicit sexual content of my memoir you have to open "Books" on Amazon and then type in my name or the title to find my book... or you can click here.
I actually make more on the $9.99 ebook through Amazon than I do the $25 paperback because of the color photos I included. Since I can buy 'Author Copies' for less, I make more if I sell the paperback directly to you and then I can sign the book for you - if you like. To mail it to you inside the continental US the cost is $30 or $25 if we can meet in person somewhere nearby.

Here is a friend's recent review:

"Your precious book arrived today, after waiting patiently for me to retrieve it from my mailbox, late this afternoon. When I showed it to my niece and her friend who are currently visiting, they were immediately drawn into it. My niece's friend, a literature professor - deeply inspired by your book - offered us dramatic readings of portions of your book that caught her attention. She summed up your book, as sharing your journey into the sacred sexual, as you learned to love your body, facing your demons, even as you embrace your illuminations, all with such authenticity and inspiring poetry. Your book is such a gift! Thanks so much for writing it, and offering it to a planet that really needs such inspiration, authenticity, beauty, and truth."

Thank you, my dear friend, for sharing this beautiful review!

If you do read and like my book please leave a review of it on Amazon. Even if you didn't buy it from Amazon I believe you can review it there. And now I'm complete on promoting my book. Grin!
